Grubby Electric Taper Candles HOW TO

In needing a grubby taper for one of my crafts, I figured I’d just try and make one.

Here’s how it went. And it was super simple!

THINGS YOU MAY NEED:
Mod Podge
Cinnamon
Paint Brush

As you can see, I had to remove the bottom flat piece of the taper with pliers because I needed it to stick securely in foam. Totally optional and I’m pretty sure most of you won’t need to do that.

Then I simply took some mod podge, brushed it on the entire taper with a small paint brush. I held it over a paper plate to hold back the mess.

And then while it was still wet with mod podge, I simply sprinkled some .50cent bottle of Dollar Store cinnamon all around the taper.

And then I found a place that I could hang it up to dry for the first time.
And after it was mostly dry and not falling off all over the place. I gave it a second, huge helping coat of mod podge all over the top of the cinnamon this time. And this way, it will seal up the cinnamon and keep it from trying to come off on our hands.

After the mod podge dried, which only took about an hour, it was ready.

One more thing I did was replace the bland looking light with a grubby one I recently made to make it look more prim.

And here it is in my craft project that I needed it for.

I’m happy with it, and best of all I didn’t have to go out and buy another item to finish my old tool box craft.

Easy Halloween Candles

These stemmed my previous post, Ghost Candles. Once I got started making ghost faces on the white ones (one below in second pic), I just had so many other ideas for them. Pumpkin faces, cat silhouettes, ghosts in a moon, the list goes on and on.
I bought a pack of 24 votive sized candles at the local Big Lots for around $6.00. And that’s not really a high price I know. But when I buy them to make and resale them at my booth, every penny counts.

Then I painted some of them a base color of orange. I chose cinnamon color but it came out way more bright than I thought, which was okay. Left some white also, for the ghosts faces. Next I google’d “pumpkin faces” and choose images, so I’d have an idea of what some looked like to draw. Painted them on with basic black craft paint.

And then, here’s where I got a little different with them. Instead of simply sealing them with a paint on sealer, I thought it’d be cool to set the faces in wax. How you ask? Well, I keep a candle melted on my candle warmer at all times. I use it almost daily. It happens to be a yellowish-brown color, flavored butter-rum. So I dipped each candle down in it, kinda quick, so that the paint wouldn’t melt away from the hot wax. Then set them on a sheet of wax paper to dry. And that’s it.

Oh, if you have noticed the grubby candle with the eyes, I simply grubbied it up a bit with some melted wax and cinnamon. Dipped that in the wax to set. Then continued on with painting the face and re-dipping him.

Primitive Candle Holders

I had an old, woobly chair that had the cutest legs, so I broke it all up. And used the best parts to make a differenty kinda candle holder. I hot-glued a rusty metal star on it, and tied a bit of homespun fabric.
Theres a few more of the smaller pieces on the other side, but the photo got cut off. They sure are different, that’s for sure. lol.
